Lesson Title: Global Warming Research Project Day 1
State Standards: GLEs/GSEs
PS1 (7-8) – 4 Students demonstrate an understanding of states of matter by …explaining the effect of increased and decreased heat energy on the motion and arrangement of molecules. PS2 (7-8) – 7 Students demonstrate an understanding of heat energy by…explaining the difference among conduction, convection and radiation and creating a diagram to explain how heat energy travels in different directions and through different materials by each of these methods.
Context of Lesson:
This is the part of the unit where the students get to convey what they learned to the class. Each student or groups of students will give a five minute presentation on their project
Opportunities to Learn:
Materials:
Project Rubric
Any computer equipment that the students might need for their project.
Professional Resources:
N/A
Classroom Environment:
Students will be seated at their lab tables. To give their presentations they will have to come to the front of the room.
Cooperative Learning:
N/A
Differentiating Instruction:
Students with a document disability will be allowed to have a different time requirement or they will be able to present after school in front of me and a friend or another teacher on the team.
Depth of Knowledge:
Level 3 (Strategic Thinking)
Objectives:
Students will research and explain the concepts of global warming from their research to an 80% proficiency.
Instruction:
Introductory Activity (3 min): The class will start with students picking raffle numbers out of a bowl. This will determine there order of presentation.
Main Activity (42 min):
Students will present their projects.
Closing Activity (5 min):
Students will be reminded that if they did not present today they will be going tomorrow and will need to make any final adjustments.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed based on their presentation and project.
